Colour Innovation Series

We’ve previously tackled the wonders of blue for our interiors. For this instalment on the Colour Innovation Series, we bring light to the bright and fabulous shade of yellow.

Bright and Sunny Yellow

Yellow is a naturally occurring colour that we relate to all things bright, sunny and wonderful. Psychologically speaking, yellow connotes a sense of happiness, confidence and optimism. We instantly experience an uplifting feeling whenever this vibrant shade is used in a room. Likewise, yellow in Eastern cultures is a revered colour that is usually reserved for the ruling class and to attract prosperity.

This colour is best used to brighten up spaces and inject it with a cheerful vibe. Add a nice yellow daybed to your home office and add a zest of energy into an otherwise gloomy space. Another idea is to paint the walls of your living room white or grey and add a beautiful yellow sofa and other yellow accents to create a modern and inviting living room. The mix of the bright with subdued colours create a harmonious balance that brings out the best of yellow in your interiors.

Though a beautiful hue, the use of yellow should be used sparingly as too much yellow can overwhelm your interiors. Bright yellows (like yellow, marigold, mustard or even gold) are recommended only as accents to a room – like a beautiful sofa bed or a set of pillows - and should be paired with dark, earthy tones or light neutrals. On the other hand, light and mellow shades of yellow, on the other hand can be used for your walls and is a great way to make a space look big.

Add a happy and vibrant twist to your interiors with a dash of yellow!
